Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Vijay Bahuguna has sought 200 MW of power from the Centre, in lieu of the scrapping of three major hydel projects in the hill state, to meet the growing shortfall. As part of its mega investment plan to attract industry players, the Uttarakhand government plans to set up an industrial estate on 1,700 acre land at Sitarganj in the Kumaon region. According to media reports, Chief Minister, Vijay Bahuguna may lay the foundation stone for the project. The state government is said to have hired a consultant for the project. Production work at the three MW Urgam mini hydel power project in Uttarakhand was scheduled to start soon. Built on Kalpaganga river, a tributary of the Alaknanda at Helang in Chamoli district, the project was closed since 2004, Uttarakhand Jan Vidyut Nigam Chairman, Subhash Kumar stated.
