In order to support the renewable energy sector, government plans to provide viability gap funding (VGF) for solar power projects in the second phase of the national solar mission. Reports suggest that the union renewable energy ministry decided to provide VGF for 2,500 MW of solar projects out of 3,000 MW for which the reverse bidding will happen in June, 2013. Read more...

Media reports suggest that around 3,600 MW of solar power projects would be awarded by the union government in the next two years to project developers.This includes the proposed award of 1,650 MW solar projects in 2013-14 under the Phase II of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. Andhra Pradesh has called for investors to put up about 1,000 MW of solar power projects in the State. Andhra Pradesh transmission utility, APTRANSCO, has put out a list of sub-stations and the solar power capacity that each of them can take.Bidders are to bid up to that capacity at that location. Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has announced new norms for viability gap funding (VGF) for large-sized solar power projects, to come up in Phase II of the National Solar Mission.
