SKL to set up shipyard in India

Sembmarine Kakinada Ltd (SKL), a joint venture of Singapore-based Sembawang Shipyard Pvt Ltd and Kakinada Seaports Ltd, has established a shipyard at Kakinada port worth $375 million to cater to offshore units and merchant vessels operating in Indian waters.


The shipyard will be developed in three phases over three to five years. The contours of the funding arrangements will be finalised in the next three months. SKL is aiming at a 30:70 deal for infusing funds for construction of the yard. The facility, which is expected to start operations by the end of 2010, will offer integrated services to offshore vessels and merchant ships for construction, conversion, repair works.
