Cennergi selects Suzlon turbines for 138 MW project bid in South Africa

 Suzlon Group, has been selected as the preferred supplier by Cennergi for a 138 MW wind energy project currently under development in South Africa.Cennergi is an equal JV between South Africa’s Exxaro Resources and Tata Power.

Cennergi has chosen to use 66 of Suzlon’s S97-2.1 MW turbines for the project, located in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.If definitive agreements are reached, Suzlon will deliver the turbines under a full EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) agreement.Thomas Garner, Cennergi CEO said, “Our focus is to deliver renewable energy projects in South Africa.For this bid, Suzlon was an obvious choice based on its vast experience in emerging markets and current participation in the energy sector in South Africa specifically. We are very excited by this opportunity and are confident of building successful wind projects.” Tulsi Tanti, Chairman, Suzlon Group said, “South Africa is very committed to its target of installing 8,400 MW of wind energy by 2030.We are very encouraged by the consistent work being done for the sector and look forward to making significant contribution towards this target. Project construction is expected to commence towards 2013.
