Titagarh Wagon secures order worth Rs 275 crore

Titagarh Wagons AFR S.A., (TWAFR), a subsidiary of Titagarh Wagons (TWL), has bagged a prestigious order from a subsidiary of SNCF (French Railways) for supply of 400 Hopper Cereal Wagons. The order is estimated at Euro 39 mn (including free supply). Titagarh Wagons (TWL) had set up the French subsidiary in July, 2010 to take over the manufacturing facility of AFR, then a sick industrial unit by successfully bidding under the supervision of Paris Commercial Court. This is the first ever oversees acquisition by TWL and is a first of its kind in this sector, the company said. Formed by the merger of ARBEL (established 1869) and FAUVET GIREL in 1985, two of the leading manufacturers and designers of freight wagons, ARBEL Fauvet Rail - AFR is a company specialised in the design, construction and marketing car freight and tank containers.  

TWAFR is located across an area of 42 acres at Douai in northern France, considered a hub of Europe's railway industry. The plant is located over an area of 17 hectares with a covered area of 70,000 sq m.


The capacity of the unit is to produce 2,000 wagons/annum. TWAFR undertakes design, engineering and manufacture of tank cars, containers, bogies and wagons with strong research and design competencies and has developed a number of patents.


The company's shares rose nearly 2 per cent, touching Rs 196.70, after the company said its French subsidiary, Titagarh Wagons AFR S.A., has secured a prestigious order worth approx Rs 275 crore for supply of 400 Hopper Cereal Wagons.
