Railway line work for Rowghat project may face hurdles

Owing to security concerns, railway authorities were keen to learn about the progress regarding the implementation of a part of the ongoing railway line programme for the Rowghat iron ore project. While the first phase, covering a stretch of about 35 km, is progressing well, the future of the remaining stretch, about 60 km from Bhanupratappur to Rowghat, remains uncertain in view of security concerns the area being a Maoist stronghold. The Rowghat iron ore project is being implemented for the Bhilai Steel Plant. The project came up for a review at a meeting between the Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and the senior officials of the South-East-Central Railway(SECR) at Raipur. The embankments were being built, bridges constructed and railway lines laid in phase one of the railway lines project. Proper security arrangements would be needed before the work could be started for the remaining stretch. The requisitions had been placed for additional contingents of security forces and Union Home Ministry had been posted of the development.
