Essar set to commission 1,200 MW project by FY15

With the Prime Minister's Project Monitoring Group (PMG) resolving issues for Essar's 1,800 MW coal based power plant at Jharkhand, it is expected that the first phase of the same will be up and ready by FY15. "The commissioning of the project is subject to availability of coal sourced from the Chakla mine, whereas Phase II of 600 MW is based on the Ashok Karkata coal mine," a top official told PI. The company has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) to the tune of 750 MW net for phase I with BSEB, 12 per cent of power generated under variable cost regulated tariff with Government of Jharkhand and 240 MW with Noida Power Company Ltd from Phase II. The company is also obligated to supply RoFR power worth 13 per cent of installed capacity from Phase I and II to Jharkhand under regulated tariff. The cost of the project is Rs 9,700 crore.
