Western Desert Resources upgrades iron ore resource

Western Desert Resources has upgraded the direct shipping ore potential of its Roper Bar project in the Northern Territory by more than 250% to 12.9 mn t at 54.7% iron. Combined JORC resource at the project has also increased to 43.3 mn t at 42.2% iron from 12.1 mn t at 46.1% iron. This represents a 325% increase in contained metallic iron to 12.7 mn t. The revised figures are based on infill resource drilling completed in late 2010-2011 comprising 73 reverse circulation holes for 8271 m. This confirmed the hematite mineralisation extends and thickens at depth, and more importantly extends to surface. Company said that the increased resource and further definition of DSO grade material contributed towards current and future mine development planning, keeping it on track to start iron ore exports in 2013.

The Roper Bar Iron Ore Province covers about 1,900 sq km within eight granted exploration licences in the Northern Territory and includes an estimated 100 sq km of outcrop of the target Sherwin Formation which hosts extensive hematite iron ore horizons.
