JSPL to add 3 million tonne capacity in 2013
Naveen Jindal-led Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) is aiming to commission new facilities with capacity of 3 million tonne by the end of the next financial year, a senior company official said on January 29. This includes commissioning of the first unit of its upcoming steel mill in Odisha’s Angul with a capacity of 2 million tonne per annum (mntpa), company’s Deputy Managing Director & CEO for Steel Business VR Sharma said.
The Odisha steel plant has a envisaged steel production capacity of 6 mntpa in the first phase, with an estimated investment of Rs 30,000 crore. Besides this, another 1 mntpa new steel unit will be added to company’s existing 3 mntpa capacity in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh by the end of 2013-14, he said.
“By 2015, our target is to have a total steel making capacity of 15 mntpa, that includes increasing the Shadeed plant at Oman to 2 mntpa. All the plants are under construction and the new units will get commissioned from the next financial year onwards,” Sharma added.
