Coimbatore Corp mulls bus stand project

Coimbatore Municipal Corporation plans to set up a bus stand at Kurichi with 25 bus bays, 27 shops, parking facility on about 7,000 sq ft at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The project has received approval from the Public Works Department and following this the civic body awaits administrative sanction from the state government. The project is proposed on a 3.87 acre land sandwiched between roads that lead to Kurichi. The land, earlier used to be a water body, will require necessary PWD clearance. With no water flowing into the area from the Big Tank, the Corporation had chosen the site as it is ideal for a bus stand, says PA Ganeshwaran, Executive Engineer, Coimbatore Corporation. After the corporation receives administrative sanction, it would present the details of the project in a detailed project report for technical sanction to the Chief Engineer at the office of the Commissioner for Municipal Administration.

Ganeshwaran says that the bus stand will cater to the residents of the southern part of the city and will house both city and mofussil buses. It will take the traffic load of the Ukkadam bus stand and Athupalam.

As for the developments on the Vadavalli bus stand, he says that the government has asked for a fresh drawing of the bus stand by accommodating more shops and parking lot.
