East Central Rly ferries 88 mt freight in 2010-11
The East Central Railway (ECR) loaded 88.14 mt of revenue earning freight in 2010-11, registering 8.97 mt or 11.33 per cent increase over 79.17 mt in 2009-10, according to ECR sources.
Coal accounted for nearly 91 per cent of the total freight traffic. The coal throughput at 80.09 mt during the period under review as compared to 72.54 mt in 2009-10 thus posted 10.4 per cent growth. All the three coal loading areas of ECR, namely, Dhanbad, Barkakana and Chopa reported impressive loading. Next major item was cement whose throughput jumped 103 per cent at 1.71 mt (0.84 mt), followed by POL loading, 5.2 per cent, at 1.35 mt (1.28 mt) mainly at Indian Oil's Barauni refinery.
