Industrial investment up by 37 per cent in Feb

As per the entailed project investment record complied by the Secretariat for Industrial Assistance (SIA), an important indicator for project start-ups, industrial entrepreneur memoranda (IEM) increased to 211 in February 2014, as against 179 in January 2014. The rise in project start-ups also increased the investment to the tune of Rs 36,014 crore in February 2014, as against Rs 13,350 crore in January 2014. In terms of sectors, investment intentions reflect preference for cement and gypsum products, textiles and electrical equipments with proposed investment of Rs 4,058 crore (11 per cent), Rs 2,451 crore (11 per cent) and Rs 1,562 crore (4 per cent), respectively, in February. During the month of February, 43 IEMs with Rs 6,818 crore have reported implementation as compared to 50 IEMs with Rs 3,913 crore during January 2014. When it comes to proposed investment state-wise Odisha tops the chart with proposed investment of Rs 16,539 crore, followed by Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh with proposed investment of Rs 5,955 crore and Rs 4,798 crore during February.
